I am worried I may have contracted Swine Flu. I have been in close contact with somebody from Birmingham for four days (arms distance) and he was sneezing and coughing himself. On Wednesday I began feeling unwell. Sore throat, swollen glands. and now my symptoms are becoming more severe, I am now suffering bad headache, aching joints and muscles, loss of appetite and I'm extremely tired. All along with a sore throat. I have called NHS Direct and they said its unlikely because I am 19 but a 19 year old died yesterday of Swine Flu. Is this the NHS being useless or could I be over-reacting? I generally feel like death warmed up, I haven't felt this ill in a long time. .x. more

Open Question: How Can I Cure Tonsil Stones that are Embedded into my Tonsils?

I have all the symptoms of Tonsilloliths and it is really pain ful. I have a sore throat, my ear hurts when i swallow , my tonsils are swollen, and I have embedded tonsil stones in the back of the mouth on tonsils. Some of these embedded stones are past my tongue where I cant even see it without making weird and awkard faces to see. Open Question: Sore Throat/Ear problem for 2+ years?

My problem(s): sore throat lower ear canal hurts throat hurts when swallowing throat just aches in general sometimes headaches, hot forehead (no fever though) and body aches and the same symptomss come back usually every month and typically last for 4 or 5 days, hurting really bad for 3 and then linger away. At first I thought I just wasn't getting over a flu, but then the problems keep coming back so I thought I was lactose intolerant or had other allergies. A doctor recommended me to take Clairton which didn't work and just gave me nightmares. Another doctor said I just have a weak immune system and to basically get over it. I've tried vitamins, orange juice, lots of liquids, had tests which all came back negative for strep, mono etc and had blood work, xrays, urine tests and throat cultures. I don't know what to do from here to fix it. If you have any ideas about what my problem is or even how to ease the pain, please please please let me know! thanks! more

hi,for 2days i have been feeling very achy, especially my shoulders. just got over a cold and sore throat. my shoulders are aching, my neck is aching, my throat feels swollen and i had constipation but now i have diarrhea, i am very overweight and get the odd aches and pains but this is worse,cant even sleep. also i been leaning on my left arm quite a bit lately and don't no if this is anything to do with it. but anyway, shoulders ache, neck aches, upset tummy, throat feels swollen and a bit dry, headache, earache, tierdness, chest feels slightly tight and feeling a bit shaky, also worrying im gonna die.after taking 2 anadin extra all i have now is a heavy achy shoulder, all the rest has gone. i think its just because i always lay on this arm and been on the computer alot lately. thanks for replys. lol more

Well, I don't drink nearly enough water a day really...At least to what I hear is enough. I have about a glass of water. I'm getting headaches more often and they get worse, and my lips are so chapped I'm getting blisters. My nose is also starting to peel, too. I thought it could be a reaction to the sun, but I'm a complete indoors person and I haven't been exposed to the sun for a few days. I experienced pains in my wrists and hands today and I have a worse sore throat than I usually do. I don't want to go to the doctors because I've had a few recent trips there and got an operation and all. But I'm worried that I'm not getting enough water into my body. Over a week or two ago, I started to get a runny nose and I was sneezing much. I thought it was just allergies. There were about 2 nights in a row where I had a mild fever, a headache, and I felt nauseas. During those nights, I began to cough intermittantly. It is a dry cough. This week, my nose isn't runny anymore, but my cough has progressively worsened. It hurts my stomache muscles and my head when I cough, but my throat doesn't hurt. But the cough is getting more painful by the day. I've also had watery eyes for the past few days. Tonight it's unusually itchy and watery. So do these symptoms sound like whooping cough or do you think that this may be just bad allergies? I usually have allergy problems in the fall and spring, not the summer. My coughs are usually accompanied with a sore throat, but I don't have one at all. I would appreciate the answers :-)I should add that the coughing fits last longer and are more frequent. more

Two days ago, I was really sick. I had what felt like a cold in the morning. As the day progressed, I developed a terrible headache. As it went on I found myself having to lay down and when I finally got home, I slept for 8 hours, had a fever of 102, a really tiny cough, and was aching all over along with the headache (that got worse when I sat up or stood up) and thirst/chills. Yesterday, I felt pretty much better after I slept most of the day and went out around 7 with some friends, and when I sat down I realized I still felt a little sick but didn't know how to describe it, other than I felt generally unwell. I wasn't even sick to my stomach and I don't think I had a sore throat. Today, I went out around noon and all day I've had a sore throat, but it just got worse and worse. Now it's almost the end of the day and it hurts a lot to swallow, it hurts a little to talk, and my throat just hurts in general. It's not really causing me trouble breathing, but it hurts in the base of my ears and breathing is only the slightest bit hard. I'm also still a little tired and coughing some.My throat is bothering me a lot and I can't tell if my tonsils are swollen (but I don't think I'd have tonsilitis??) I recently had an eye infection, and today I was hanging out with my close friend who apparently recently had strep throat. I used to be told I was a hypochondriac all the time, so I don't know if I'm actually sick, but I'm not exaggerating. Also, I'm kind of young, so that could affect what I have but also I have Dr.Mom... So if anyone knows anything about this, could you tell me? Exactly as it says on the tin! My throat is almost raw, from all the coughing, i had nearly a two hour coughing fit, with a 5 minute break in between, when i was semi asleep! I'm 14 and I am always feeling sick and getting colds and sicknesses. I can't breathe very well but that is probably something else. Open Question: I got an MRI on my head because of severe headaches, and it showed my sinuses are fully plugged?

Doctor's gave me sinus infection antibiotics, didn't help. They gave me nose spray, didn't help. I frequently have a sore throat because of post nasal drip, a stuffy nose and frequent headaches. I have a pretty nasally voice as well, which makes it hard for me to breathe while talking or even in general. Is this a sign of a deviated septum? Is there any surgery that would help this? I am really hurting today after being awful and consuming a hefty portion of cake, brownies and some alcohol over the course of yesterday. I have noticed that, for a while now, I have been having a consistent hangover-type response the day after consuming too much sugar - even if it's just some ice cream before bed. Typical symptoms include: - migraine/headache - sore throat - irritability - fatigue/weakness - weakness in breathing I have *none* of the risk factors for diabetes. I understand that probably the wisest thing to do now would be to try and cut sugar out of my diet for a couple of weeks and see how I feel, but I was also hoping that some people out there might be able to share some insight or personal experience. Every since all these celebrities dying, little stuff has been freaking me out. So Yesterday I went to an amusement and was on roller coasters all day, then saw a concert in the park. Usually when I come home, from the park and I have a headache from being thrown around and the loud noises and what not. I woke up today fine but later tonight, I felt dizzy, my back is killing me with a sharp pain on the left side, and every once in a while I get a little pinch in my chest, shortness of breath, I also have a sore throat and my eyes burn. I went to the doctor today because my throat is pussy and bleeding, I've had a fever of 103.6, I can't stand up on my own without tripping, and my body aches are so bad that I can't fall asleep. Open Question: would it be inappropriate to almost scare women when telling them?

what to expect at puberty? To even unashamedly scare them? Because I am beyond bitter due to all the BS I was fed when I was young. I was given all these lovey-dovey, softly spoken books and leaflets and info in school and even from my parents. What was available, trying to prepare me. Telling me things like : "you may feel a little ill around the time of your period, such as a headache" "try getting a hot water bottle to soothe any cramps" not that I would be a complete mess and have to pop pills and end up going to the doctor thinking I was dying but it was only my period. I mean why are women not told this?? Why do they say that no-one can tell when you're on your period.. supposedly.. but they don't bother to mention that you need to take a crackly plastic bag and go to the bathroom every 5 hours with a big bag in tow... don't mind me.. just... going into a cubicle with a bag... not on my period or anything. I don't usually do this but I just randomly want to take my bag." or even worse, the ridiculousness and riskiness of hiding it somewhere on your body, for it to fall out in front of everyone? "OOPS I'm so sorry, I just dropped a sanitary pad on your homework, can you please pass it over so I can go to the bathroom and change it without anyone knowing." then you hear all the crackles and ripping and you take 10 minutes longer. Or about how the vagina is some sort of tiny hole that must be pried open painfully bit by bit, before anything and I mean anything can GET in, whether it is wanted or needed or not. And how sex hurts and you bleed for like 3 days. And how you need smear test which means you spread your legs wide on a table whilst someone wedges you open with a pair of metal tongs, then they stick something in you and scrape your insides. I only found this out to my alarm when I was 20!!!! and how no-one can tell you're on your period but they will notice you going to the toilet all the time, popping headache tablets, holding your stomach, and suddenly getting spots all over your face and being insatiably hungry. IS IT just me? I feel it's like the 'happily ever after' fairy tail but about our bodies. The Fight Club- "we were lied to- and we are only just realizing it. And we are not happy about it!! " Is it wrong of me to want to fix this by letting all the girls out there know what the reality is?? I think it's a big sham. Also I was not told PMS was nausea and sometimes vomiting, dizziness/vertigo, sore throat, sore head, leg cramps, diarreah, depression, food cravings, basically everyone seems to think it's some sort of joke, that women get 'moody', whatever that means. So is it wrong of me because I think if we expect the worst then all that will happen is we are pleasantly surprised/relieved???oh and the fact that birth control can kill you. I didn't find that out either until I went to get my periods regulated, so I asked the doctor at like 15 (before I had the internet lol obv) and it was all WOOO GO AHEAD, ENJOY, PROBLEM SORTED, then I get home and read the pack before taking it and there is a list of 500 ways to die taking them.PMS is before periods, and being on a period does not cause PMS crankiness only feeling bad from the pain, so the insulters should at least get their jokes right. To assume my negative opinion has anything to do with my periods is exactly the point. Women can get PMS for 2 weeks, and a period for 7 days. Which means there is a high chance a woman when feeling ill or being angry is either on her period or has PMS, what difference does it make? When this whole thing started, I had feelings of fatigue, headaches, loss of appetite, and a fever as well as the chills. These symptoms disappeared over time, but the sore throat remains. I had the flu two weeks ago. I felt fine, but now I feel even worse than the last time. symptoms: severe body aches. feel like i can't move headache bad sore throat fever tired/weak waves of nausea cough I am a 14 year old female.Yes, I actually did have swine flu two weeks ago, so I am wondering if this is a relapse. And my mom is bringing me to the doctor in an hour. more

Resolved Question: Swollen throat, lots of canker sores in mouth, sore throat? WHAT COULD IT BE?? (10 PTS.)?

So, for the past, i would say 5 days... my throat has been feeling swollen and now, i have like 4 canker sores in my mouth. 2 on my tongue and 2 like on the inside of my bottom lip and back in my mouth. My throat really didnt hurt until today and now its starting to get sore. No white patches. No fever. Its just kinda red and i think there might be a few sores back there. I have also been getting headaches and getting dizzy, too. I actually just started new birth control about the same time this started happening. Could this have something to do with it? Any idea what this could be? I plan on going to the doctor friday if this doesnt get any better. Thanks!I only kiss one guy. Thats it. And he is fine. more

Yesterday I woke up feeling like I had a cold-stuffy nose and sneezing. Later on during the day I started aching all over and developed a fever and sore throat. Today my throat is in so much pain and very red, I've also had the same symptoms from the day before with some headaches and swollen glands with bouts of exhaustion. I got a strep test and it came back negative. Any ideas on what I might have? more

YOUR GOING TO NEED TO READ THIS!!! well, on saturday i had a sore throat and a small cough and my leg muscles were aching like crazy. keep in mind that i had broken my ankle and hadnt done sport for about 6 weeks so the schaing might have been to do with the athletics carnival i had on the friday. any way, on sunday, my throat was worse and my cough was really loud and painful. every time i laughed, yawned, sneezed or coughed, my chest would hurt a lot. my muscles were still achey. my mum said to see how i felt so i went to bed early with a big headache (though watching tv sure didnt help that) and that night, i woke up and ran to the bathroom and vomitted, and then maybe 15 minutes later i did it again. i was all sweaty, yet i was shivering and i felt hot but i still shivered. it was really weird. i couldnt sleep at all because of it and then this morning (monday) i told my mum and she is letting me stay off of school. now, she looked up the symptoms of swine flue and they were rather similar to what i had, but i havent come in contact with anybody with a case of swine flu, so she dismissed that and said probably had another flu or im just sick. well here's the thing; about 2 weeks ago (on the Queens birthday weekend thingy) i went to canberra to meet with my dad, and he had been to melbourne to visit friends or something. i hugged him and stuff, but i dont think he was or is sick. also, my friend's dad has also been to melbourne and she went to see him (not in melbourne) and she was supposed to be quarantined apparently but she didnt and now we dont have to be quarantined if we have been to melbourne.. so yeah, im just a bit concerned, here are the swine flu symptoms i saw on the internet; * fever, which is usually high, but unlike seasonal flu, is sometimes absent * cough * runny nose or stuffy nose * sore throat * body aches * headache * chills * fatigue or tiredness, which can be extreme * diarrhea and vomiting, sometimes, but more commonly seen than with seasonal flu so do i have it, and if i do what should i do? more

Voting Question: Why can I not get a fever?

this is an odd question and its not like I'm trying to get one its just very weird... so first off let me explain. I'm a diabetic type 1 since I was 14 years old. the doctors told me that I had 1/10th the immune system a normal person did , blah blah blah cuts take long to heal yeah all that good stuff.. Now since I was diagnosed I have Never not once had a fever... I've been sick to the point where I could barely get out of bed but no fever... I've felt like hell but no fever. and than for the last 5 days I've been extremely sick I've had a terrible sore throat nonstop headaches congestion dizziness , lack of strength and energy, but every day I wake up I check my temp and its not high my forehead is cold. so I get up and I go to work and suffer through the day I basically get home and go to bed cus I cant do much more but without a fever I decided not to go to the doctor, ( now I know I'm going to get a million reply's saying go to the doctor which is the easy way out of this question , and if i don't get better by Monday I prob will be visiting my doctor.) and waste not only the workday but the doctor's fee I'm a poor college student I cant be wasting money on silly stuff like health... And so today I was supposed to help my father with something , and once again no fever so I forced myself to go and not half the day had gone by and apperantly I spread waht ever I had to him he was fine before I got there and instantly started feeling terrible and not another hour passed and he had a fever and had to go... now I started wondering ( a fever works when antibody's fight off infections and your body gets hot) so is my lack of antibody's making it so that I cant have a fever , or do I have really good luck at never getting really sick? and I'm complaining for absolutely no reason? more

Voting Question: what are the best ways of helping a sore throat?

alright .. so i just had an earache to days ago...because i was in my moms convertible and the side windows were open and i guess i got wind in it a day after it started to hurt badly and my throat started to hurt to.. my tonsils weren't that that swollen but just a bit on the ride side where i have the earache.. its rele painful when i swollow. The third day my throat was KILLING ME!:( like wow i have a hard time talking. i tried honey and tea but didn't help. i tried eating popsicles didn't help too much. and i've been spitting a lot getting all that bacteria out. feels better but it still reallllllllllly hurts. im not gunna go to the doctor yet i mean it's only the third day and plus im sure this can go away by its self. but i need to know how i can get my throat to feel a lot better then what it does right now! My best friends coming over today i dont wanna be like this... any suggestions? on how to make my throat feeel better.? AND.. ive been drinking alotttt of water to. taking advil to for the headaches, which i dont think i shud be taking that .. probly makes it worse for my throat. so please somebody help! i did gargle with warm salt water like 5 times noww. nothing happened yet.. but im sure thats because i havnt done it enough.. ahh im on the verge of crying :o more

Resolved Question: Sore throat, stiff neck, ear ache, and headache... what could it be?

About three days ago I got a really bad sore throat and, I'm guessing just from the stress over the sore throat, a headache. A day after that I got a really stiff neck and then yesterday I got an ear ache. I'm 14 and I have state softball in two weeks. I don't want to go to the doctor yet because I don't want to be told I have to get my tonsils out or something and then have to miss state. Anyway, my brother had his tonsils taken out when he was probably 10. Will I have to get mine out, too? Or is it something else? And yes, I know, I should see a doctor...Yeah, my parents know. It's just a couple years back my throat was hurting kind of like it is now and they took me to the doctor and they said it was just a temporary thing. So, I think that's what they think it is. more
