Resolved Question: Does this mean i'm a high risk pregnancy?

with my last pregnancy (nearly 11 months ago) i was induced at 38 weeks and 4 days pregnant due to being in hospital 6 days before they induced me, i was ill, was dehydrated--so was put in drip had really bad abdominal pains which was caused by badly squash bowels and was anaemic. i was pushing for an hour and a half and then they realised he was facing to the side and i had to go down to Theatre So They Could Use Forceps and ended up losing 3 litters of blood which was scary and had to be giving 4 pints of blood not only that i had water in my left lung and pneumonia and was still anaemic. i told all this to my midwife at my last appointment, 2 days ago i got a letter out from 'department of Obstetrics' with a appointment for the 14th july which i will be 14 w 1d, what will happen? and does this mean i'm high risk and its to talk about things? thanks x more

Resolved Question: How to deal with unwanted comments from Mil (long)?

I need advice on how to politely deal with my MIl regarding comments she makes on my pregnancy and towards my partner. I have a 26 month old son and my husband (her son) died when my son was three months old. His death was a shock despite the fact that he had leukemia (we expected him to go into remission). Pneumonia was what actually caused his death. I had to grieve quickly because I had a newborn to take care off but my MIL took well over a year to grieve. I've made an effort to stay in contact with her despite the fact that she lives just 15 minutes away from me and has come to my house 2 or 3 times in the past 26 months. I usually take my son to see her once a month, sometimes more as well as for family functions etc that she invites me to. My (now) partner has been the only constant source of support since my husband died (he knew my husband and has known me for 9 years). When my husband was sick, he'd not only visit us but also help out with the yard work & jobs around the house. After my husband died, he still came around, usually every 2nd weekend to help with the garden/mowing etc and to spend time with my son and me. He's been fantastic with my son. My son adores him and now calls him "dada" (we did not encourage this). He also helped me a lot in dealing with my grief. About 6 months ago, I started having feelings for him and about 5 months ago our r/ship changed from friendship to an adult relationship & it did progress quickly. I'm 12 weeks pregnant and we have been living together for the past 2-3 months. I only recently told my MIl about the pregnancy and also about my partner and I living as a family. She has been very cold to me since I told her. She said it was disgusting that I let my son call my partner "dada" . She keeps going on about how difficult it will be for my son having a HALF brother (emphasis on the half) & saying how we have moved too quickly without any thought to the damage we are causing my son. And she is trying to insist that she take my son, once I have the baby, for a couple of months so that my son can get the attention he deserves. She acts as though she expected me to live the rest of my life with just my son and doesn't seem to realise how unhappy and lonely I have been. I am now really happy and optimistic about the future and I have a loving partner that treats my son as his own and is excited about having another child. I have had to stop visiting my MIl as much but that isn't fair on my son. I want my MIl to be in my son's life but I can't deal with her comments and obvious disgust towards my life. What can I do?***I should have said half sibling not brother. more

Voting Question: Would antibiotics cause these reactions?

I am currently getting over a nasty bout of pneumonia. I am a healthy 28 year old female and was literally knocked on my rear by a sudden onslaught of bacterial pneumonia. Three weeks after being being diagnosed, I am still fighting it. I've been through two rounds of antibiotics (ZPaks), one shot (not sure what it was.. assumed it was an antibiotic but was later told it could have been a steroid) Anyhow, a few days ago my breasts became very sensitive. I've never had sensitive breasts and would even characterize mine as normally less sensitive than I think they should be. Even during my pregnancy with my son (4), it wasn't like this. I also noticed today that I am approximately 7 days late for my period. There is zero chance that I am pregnant as my boyfriend has had a vasectomy many years ago. Could the antibiotics and/or the illness be the cause of this or should I be looking for something else? more

Resolved Question: Very worried about this swine flu and my pregnancy....?

I'm nearly 18 weeks pregnant and I'm really really worried about this flu scare. I know a lot of it is scaremongering, but then this morning on the news the newsreader was saying how pregnant women are a high risk category as they can't receive the tamiflu or the treatment - and then I just read on another site that flu in pregnant women can lead to pneumonia. I'm absolutely past myself as to what to do. I work in a small office so I don't see too many people but my husband works away and goes through the Amsterdam airport every 6 or 7 days and I'm petrified I'm going to get this and won't be able to get it treated. I feel like locking myself in the house! Anyone else feel worried about their baby like this? I don't think I'll be watching the news again! more

Resolved Question: Period question, please answer?

For the last 6 six months (since I started keeping track) I've been extremely regular, 28 days every cycle. This month, I've four days late. I don't think I'm pregnant. I have had sex, but it was protected both times and we're very careful and responsible about it. I took a pregnancy test when I was 2 days late and it was negative. I'm wondering if it's because I've been sick and traveling? I know stress, etc., can affect periods. I went to France for 11 days and got sick while I was there, but it was towards the end of the trip and I saw a doctor as soon as I got home. I have bronchitis, and I've been put on a round of antibiotics (clarithromycin) and steroids (prednisone). I finished the prednisone already, but I'm not getting better as fast as I should so they're putting me on another week of the antibiotics. When I went to the hospital for my chest x-ray to make sure it wasn't pneumonia, they also gave me a shot of some kind of steroid. I don't remember the name now. Could any of those medications be causing me to be late? more

Resolved Question: 2.5 weeks late for period, negative pregnancy test. Any advice?

I am now about 2 and half weeks late for my period. I have never missed a period in my life! My thyroid levels are normal. At one week late I started to get increased vaginal discharge and tender boobs. Now the last 3 days or so my nipples are sensitive. Blood test from about a 5 days ago was negative and urine test negative today. WHAT IS GOING ON? How can I have these symptoms and not be pregnant? Is it possible to be pregnant still? Has it happen to any of you to get a really delayed positive on pregnancy test? I did have pneumonia last month, but it was a good week or more after I ovulated that I got sick. I was sick exactly 1 week and on meds and antibiotics. Could this be the cause? It has been about 7 weeks since my last period! more

Resolved Question: Can pneumonia or antibiotics make me skip a period?

So I have been thinking I was pregnant for a while, but having all these negative pregnancy test. I was planning on waiting until this month's period before I decided to go talk to a doctor about getting an ultrasound to really find out the truth. I figured if I miss it this month, then either I am pregnant or my hyperthyroidism is effecting my periods now. I got pneumonia and had to be on antibiotics for 10 days. I was expecting my period to be on March 25 at the very latest. That would have been 34 days since I had some weird spotting last month(possible implantation bleeding). I still don't have my period and have been on the edge feeling the last 2 days. Like I feel like I need to scream and cry and extremely flustered. Could the pneumonia and/or antibiotics make me late or skip a period? I have decided I am going to call a doctor for an ultrasound if my period doesn't come at all my the end of this month, but Im just so frustrated b/c this month was going to be what convinced me something was really going on, but now it is all messed up. more

Resolved Question: Fathers rights in Vic Australia?

Sorry if this is a bit long but these kinda things are rarely simple My current partner conceived a child from a one-night stand. He tried to make it work after he found out but she didn't want a father she only wanted a sperm donor. She made his life hell until his mum pointed out the kid was better off shared between 2 happy homes than in a war zone and they broke it off at about 6mths into the pregnancy After the birth she made sure every encounter was horrible experience for all involved then at about 4mths disappeared changed her address and ph number so we couldn't find her again She lied and got his child support tripled she would have to know someone there they sent him a letter asking him to attend a meeting with a time/date but no address and the 13 number couldn't tell him where the meting was going to be obviously he couldn't afford it and got into arrears but since it was re-assessed back down he has been paying constantly for last 2 years Suddenly out of the blue last October she got back in contact was not happy to see me with him at all (He is now 3 and we have been together 3 years) pretty much made everything awkward and refused to let my partner see him without her present but her negative attitude was that bad it was affecting the child's interactions with everyone including his grandparents. She collected his xmas presents in early Jan and that was the last we saw of her. My partner has been going through a lot including the death of his grandmother who he was close to on the 23rd Dec and with the looming recession we're facing bankruptcy with our business he couldn't handle having to deal with her as well so let it slide until now We sent her a message asking for him to pick up the child for a few hours on the weekend she has not replied. Her friend told us she is planning on going to legal aid and block my partners access based on the fact he is always in and out of the child's life (but I'm sure she won't mention her disappearing act) what are chances of succeeding We want her to attend the family dispute resolution thing but there is a 6 week wait and her friend has told us she is now preg to a one night stand off the internet and the only thing she'll say about him is he has 2 other kids that he's not allowed to see but won't say why She rarely supervises him, leaves him alone in the bath, doesn't feed him properly and drags him around wherever she wants to go even if it's odd hours or he is ill. We're talking about her best friend calling 'the enemy' and saying u need to do something he isn't safe but what on earth do we do? Her own mother keeps threatening to report her but never does. We're genuinely worried about his safety last year he was hospitalised with pneumonia. She had taken him to the hospital the night before called us to say he still wasn't well but wouldn't leave him with us while she went to the beach for the day the next day he was in hospital for a week and that's only one example. What can my partner do? more

Resolved Question: question about pneumonia and possible pregnancy? HELP!?

ok so ive been trying to conceive for the past 4 months. i had unprotected sex on ovulation day (the 15th) so my chances of being pregnant are pretty good. well i have some symptoms (dark nipples, increased cm) but yesterday i went to the doctor because i felt sooo sick. turns out i have beginning stages of pneumonia. they had me take a pee test it was negative so they prescribed me antibiotics and hydracodone syrup for my cough. will this hurt my baby if i am pregnant? i hav a feeling that the tes was too early to have accurate results because i was only like 7 dpo. i know i need to take the meds to get better but i dont want to possibly hurt my baby... has anyone been in this situation or know anything about the possible risks? thanks for any information and baby dust to all!!! more

Voting Question: 16 weeks Pregnant, no appetite?

I've had basically no appetite since I had pneumonia... even before then I didn't eat like I normally do. I have to force myself to eat just because I need to, but I can't usually eat a lot. Before I got pregnant I was a piggie... the kind of skinny person everyone hates. I could eat constantly and not gain an ounce. I could still eat constantly, but I don't feel hungry at all. In fact, I feel full most of the time.... though I know I'm now. I've not had any morning sickness at all... none. I'm starting to show, but I don't look or feel like I'm getting "fat". I'm by no means starving myself... I eat, just not a lot. So I guess my question is will this go away any time soon? I know it's a common symptom in pregnancy... but when/if will it go away? more

Resolved Question: What do people think I am fragile just cause I am pregnant?

I am 7 1/2 weeks pregnant. I have had some problems with spotting, and a threatened miscarriage. But so far everything is good. My dad had heart problems and emphysema. He was admitted to the hospital last night. For pneumonia I was not told. My mom told my fiance and asked him to make the decision if I should know or not. But said I was not allowed to come see him. Due to the worry about my pregnancy. She says I shouldn't have any worries. I understand that but my dad means the world to me, and if something could happen to him I would like to be able to say goodbye. He goes in for surgery in 2 weeks to check if he might also have cancer, the doctor told my mom that she couldn't give them a % about whether he will make if out alive. I want to be at the hospital but I was told that I was not allowed to come. They don't want me there. They said it won't do me any good to stress. I am kinda mad. I know I am pregnant but my doctor said I should be fine, baby looks good. I feel like I am being treated like a child. Are they right to keep me away? Why do they have to treat me like a kid? Do you think they are right in keeping me away? more

Voting Question: Is it safe to take Azithromycin while pregnant?

My wife, who just began her 16th week was recently diagnosed with Walking Pneumonia. He Doctor (who knows of the pregnancy) prescribed her with Azithromycin. All of my research is showing that it was never tested on a human fetus, only animal fetuses, with no negative side effects. Just wondering if anybody knows, or is someone themselves who took this drug while pregnant. Thank you very much for your time and responses.... more

Resolved Question: Stabbing pain on one side of my pelvis during pregnancy?

Twice during my pregnancy I've experienced an excruciating, stabbing pain on one side of my pelvis. The first time it happened, I was only about 24 weeks. I was awoken from sleep to what can only be described as a burning, ripping apart of my insides. It was so great that I became nauseous and couldn't even scream for fear of vomiting. The pain lasted about 15 seconds and lingered in the area once it became less intense for about an hour. This exact pain only occurred once, until I experienced it again two nights ago. It was the same exact pain. I'm now 36 weeks. The first time it happened I alerted my doctor and he told me it wasn't a big deal if there weren't any accompanying symptoms. I scheduled another appointment for early this week to talk to him about it. I'm just getting sick of people telling me "oh, its no big deal". I've had piercings, tattoos, kidney infections, pneumonia, and survived a car accident and out of all of those, this recent pain tops them all. It seems like a big deal... more

Voting Question: 19 weeks pregnant but sick since week 5?!?!?

Once I first got pregnant, I was sick. I had what I thought was a cold but it turned out to be pneumonia. Was treated for that and then found out I had bronchitis. They only gave me inhalers for that, no antibiotics. I now have my second cold. I see my OB next week but I thought I would get some insight from you all until then. I have not gained any weight at all, I have lost 3 pounds instead! I know 3lbs isn't a lot but I was expecting to gain of course:) Are our immune systems weaker during pregnancy? Is this why I am catching everything I come into contact with? I have asked the Dr's if this will harm the baby at all and he said NO, but I of course still worry. Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks in advance:) more

Resolved Question: Single mothers can you help me out? Long one...?

Well, a little background first. I dated my daughter's father for 4 years, we were engaged, and had a wedding planned. It was a very big surprise when I turned up pregnant. Well, about 3 months into my pregnancy, my daughter's father ditched me. Denied the baby was his, pretty much made my life HELL the entire time I was pregnant. The day before I was due, he called claiming he knew all along that she was his. I let him come to the hospital after I had her. The next night he was a no show. That was the beginning...for the next 9 months he rarely showed when he was supposed to. Got DWI's, partied, and made his new girlfriend a higher priority than his daughter. He only stayed at the hospital for 30 minutes, when she was there for 4 days with pneumonia. He missed her first birthday, he's basically missed every "first" that she has had. Well, here's my dilemma. The best thing for ME is for him to just be gone from my life. But I am wondering if thats what best for my daughter? It worries me sick that he is going to end up hurting her. All he does is hurt me, put me down, try to make me into the bad parent. Even though I am the one who raises our daughter alone. I don't know what to do? Should I allow him to keep walking in and out of her life as he pleases? Or should I cut him loose and leave him behind? I don't care whats best for me, I just want whats best for my daughter. As of right now, he hasn't seen her in 5 months. He just got her name tattooed on his back, for what reason I do not know. He claims she is his "life" but refuses to see her. She has no idea who he is. What should I do?She is 15 months old. At the current time, his name is not listed on the birth certificate nor does he pay child support. So right now, he has no parental rights unless he takes me to court. more

Resolved Question: Pregnancy and rib/chest pain?

I got a chest xray about a month ago to make sure it wasn't bad for the baby, anything wrong like pneumonia/etc. Docs at the ER said it might be a muscle pull. My ob gyn told me last week that it is very well possibly that and that there's nothing I can do about it and that it might take MONTHS (MONTHS!!!) to heal. It hurts so bad I have to lay down a lot of the time, no motivation to get up and do anything which sucks because I used to be so active! (outdoors, walks, bike rides, etc) but now it hurts too bad. Tylenol doesn't help. Any other suggestions on how to make this better?? Thanks!! more

Resolved Question: 29 1/2 weeks pregnant and flu shot dilemma?

I'm 29 weeks pregnant and I want to get a flu shot. I want to get the flu shot because I often get sick, despite having an extremely healthy lifestyle and diet, and I have asthma. When I have an asthma attack that's bad, I need a cortisone/steroid and emergency puffer. Even during pregnancy. That's not negotiable, if I don't get that stuff I can't breathe. Plus I've had pneumonia in the past. So obviously I don't want to get sick. Here's my problem. First of all, flu shots weren't accepted for pregnant women until recently. Why? Secondly, up to recently and still in some areas doctors have refused flu shots to women past their 8th month. Why? If flu shots are safe for me and my baby, and if you can't get the flu from the flu shot (which doctors and gov. websites keep assuring me) what could the harm possibly be to get the flu shot in 8th month? The doctor said something about a "mild immune response" and how you wouldn't want to be experiencing that so close to labor...but I don't understand, they would rather you get the flu at that point than the flu shot? And why aren't babies under 6 months allowed to have one, but I as a pregnant woman can, when my baby is still a fetus? No medical professional has been able to answer these questions. I don't understand why it's so hard to answer these questions, they are valid questions. I'm very concerned about my health, but also my baby's. I don't understand, can somebody please help me. Thank you.As I said, I really WANT to get the flu shot. I don't want to be sick, I want my baby to have the immunity later, and I don't want the flu in labor (I'm due right smack in flu season, beginning of March.) But I think I have a right to have somebody answer my questions.Where I live, you can't request a flu shot without mercury. I tried at more than one location. I'm in rural Ontario, no county around has a flu shot without mercury. Mercury isn't my biggest concern right now, though- I just want to know "why" about the other stuff.I get the flu pretty much every year. And it is the flu, not a cold (I get lots of those too.) I'm talking fever, sick for weeks, tired, intense body aches, LOTS of vomiting, and very often cough and chest symptoms which last March required doses of antibiotics. It's the flu. more

Resolved Question: What do all these symptons mean? Pneumonia, Pregnancy? ?

For the past two weeks ive felt terrible. It appeared suddenly. - no appetite - now im loosing weight - tired/rundown/exhausted/no energy - nausea - ive felt sick to my stomach - like im going to throw up for 2 weeks but haven't. - dizzy/lightheadness -occasional cold chills It came on very suddenly. One morning woke up abruptly in the early hours of the morning with a feel i was going to throw up. I still have that feeling. Since that day, i've lost my appetite and all the other symptons have came in.. I was fine before. This happened on a monday. The thursday before i was 'messing around' with my guy. We didn't have sex, but it was fingering and im 80 - 90% sure there would have been fresh sperm on his fingers. It was also my most fertile day. I didn't think you could get pregnant from this until a friend said so. BUT my period came on the day it was due - but it is NOT normal. It is much much lighter. Ive never had a period this light within a few days of starting. If anyone has any thoughts or other possible explainations please say. I have been under a lot of worry/stress but had that weeks before this started. It came on all of a sudden. I had just gotten over a pretty bad cold the week before. I still have a lingering cough from that. thanks. its appreciated.Thank you Starlightstrm. To the 2nd poster. - Why bother posting? If you read the title of my post it also says 'Pneumonia'...not just pregnancy. I am going to see the doctor.. I just came on here to get some opinions. more

Resolved Question: sharp rib pain during pregnancy?

about 5 years ago, i had a horse riding accident where i was thrown off and was unconcious. i almost broke my neck and fell straight on my side. the hospital said they wouldnt xray me coz they coulldnt be bothered at that time of night and said to come back if it still hurt. the pain eventually went away, but i always had sharp pains at random moments. they would last abouut a minute and i could only take very shallow breaths otherwise it would hurt more. i also couldnt move an inch during this pain. i wasnt really worried, because it never lasted long and was only occasional. now i am 11 weeks pregnant, and im getting pains almost everyday, alot worse than before. i have also had pneumonia, but that was after the accident. anyway, my question is, is the pain due to fractured/bruised/splintered ribs that were never found and possibly healed strange, or is it nothing and only hurts now dues to stretching inside? more

Resolved Question: Did I miscarry? or am I pregnant? Help please!! ?

I took a home pregnancy test a few days ago, it was positive. I took another one the day after, just to make sure (this time it was digital), and it also said pregnant. I was pretty sure I was. I went to the dr. yesterday, I took another urine test there, they said it was negative. I took a blood test yesterday afterward, and my HcG level was 82, which they tell me is too low. They think my HcG levels are going down, and that I might have detected the pregnancy early, but miscarried. Is 82 a normal number for an estimated 5 week pregnancy? And also, I was on different types of antibiotics and steroids last month to treat pneumonia, could that have caused my HcG levels to rise? I'm just so confused, I have no idea if i am pregnant. I have some symptoms, like sore breasts and I obviously haven't had my period yet, its at least a week late, but still, my HcG levels are too low. HELP!! thanks! more

Resolved Question: I am still having no AF.. and no sign of it... could i be preg?

I put this up a few days ago Am I pregnant? I had unprotected sex a couple of nights ago with my fiance and I am trying to figure out what ? are my chances of being pregnant? he did *** inside me. We got pregnant 2 years ago but I had a miscarriage 8 weeks in (it was our first one). I know I can't tell yet (by test) but I am trying to figure out how soon I can determine if I am. My period should have come a couple of days ago, but I also just got off of antibiotics for pneumonia. Just wondering what my chances are? and how soon I can check to be sure? Now, I am still having no real signs/symptoms of menstruation. I am having cervical mucus (a lot).. and still no signs of period... it was supposed to be a few days ago. Not really stressing.. just trying to figure out if this sounds like pregnancy? And how soon should I be seeing preg symptoms? more

Resolved Question: Been having left chest pain and trouble breathing, any ideas?

It started out feeling like maybe heartburn, and I had noticed my left shoulder hurting off and on, I thought maybe I just pulled something. Then I began having pain in my whole chest, especially on the left, it would get to the point where I couldn't breathe, it would just ache and feel tight, and it hurt with every breath I took, like if you go run for a long time in the cold weather, that's the only way I can describe it. I was still coughing a little bit from a nasty cold I had just gotten over, and I thought "maybe I have pneumonia", so I ended up going to the ER. The doc there did some chest x-rays, and basically didn't know what it was, he said he looked at the film and there was a fuzzy spot on the left side of my heart, but he didn't think it was anything important, but said to wait for the radiology team to look at it the next morning (radiology apparently didn't find anything either). He mentioned pericarditis, but wasn't sure if that's what it was, he sent me home with Motrin, Robitussin, and a zpack (antibiotic), I never did take the Robitussin or the zpack. The pain with breathing has gotten better, but I still have chest pain, all on the left side. I can't lay on my left side at all, and if I do when I'm sleeping it actually wakes me up and I have to switch positions... but carefully, because at that point I can't put any real weight on my left arm or make any sudden moves, or it sends shooting pain through my left side. I've noticed the chest pain all over the left side, from the front, to the back, to the side, to just above the breast, to just below it, sometimes it hurts in my shoulder, sometimes it feels like a muscle spasm in my back... I don't know what it is, I don't know when it's gonna strike, and I don't know how long the pain will last or how bad it will be. I have had chest pain on and off for years, but not like this, it was more of a dull achy pain in the upper left chest up by my shoulder, I had a heart ultrasound done when I was like 18 or 19 and they didn't find anything wrong, so I just ignored it. I've also been seen by a doctor before for it, right around age 21, he too didn't seem too concerned with it, he said it sounded like some kind of muscle pain and sent me home with some info on his diagnosis, and a prescription for motrin. I never picked up the prescription. I am still coughing, but I did just move to the allergy capital of the country.... Kansas..... from Washington State, and we drove. I was sick during the trip and even when the movers came, and were packing and loading our stuff. We slept on the floor and air mattress for 3 days, then it was onto hotels for almost 2 weeks, 3 days of those 2 weeks were spent in the car, the rest we spent looking for a place to live. My mother has a history of Mitral Valve Prolapse, my grandmother (mom's mom) has a history of heart trouble including large fluctuations in her phosphorus levels to which she has to drink a prescribed electrolyte drink (like Gatorade) to bring it back up, my dad has Rheumatoid Arthritis, and my grandmother (dad's mother) has Lupus, as did an Aunt of mine (mom's sister), she passed away about 14 years ago. I know many conditions are hereditary, and Lupus is often mis-diagnosed as Rheumatoid Arthritis. I also suffered from Pre-Eclampsia with my pregnancy, and I know that has also been linked to Lupus. I hope some of this helps in pointing the suggestions as to what this is in the correct direction, and I realize that none of you are equipped to diagnose the problem, but a few suggestions would help me greatly. Oh and I'm a military spouse, so all my medical care is free, however.... you do get what you pay for, if you know what I mean. more

Okay so i am trying to conceive my first baby, i have quite serious asthma though a couple of months ago i was in intensive care on a ventilator due to viral pneumonia. But now I'm feeling alot better i have also quit smoking but last time i quit smoking i went into hospital because all the yuk was coming out and my lungs couldn't handle it. Now I'm on 1 prednisolone a day and a singular tablet also I'm taking folic vitiams. Did anyone have bad asthma when trying to conceive? Also i spoke to the doctors and they said that the medication was safe to take as im only on 1 steroid instead of 8. Last time i thought i might of been pregnant it was to early to tell and i went into hospital and they put me on drips ect and it would of effected it. This is why im trying to cut down slowly on my tablets and trying to cope with the smoking. (yes i know smoking is bad with asthma but as all smokers no its not easy) Anyone got any advice? As i said ive spoke to the doctor and they said all is fine but im still not getting pregnant :( Any nurses out there your advice would be great! Thanks in advance XxMy asthma is alot better i can breathe fine now its just not advisable to stop steriods suddenly. My asthma is alot better i can breathe fine now its just not advisable to stop steriods suddenly. more

Resolved Question: is this a "rough" or "normal" pregnancy?

i feel like i'm having a very natural experience with my pregnancy. This is my first baby, and i'm extremely happy about having a little boy in October :) Other mothers i am friends with keep telling me that i'm "having it rough" with my pregnancy.. what do you think? Here's point form of life since finding out i was pregnant: - morning sickness all day and night until 28weeks - pneumonia for 5 weeks, which started at 21weeks - husband in hospital for 3 weeks with pneumonia also - asthma from hormone changes, making it impossible to continue to work - downs syndrome scare, which is okay now. - gestational diabetes, which i now have to take insulin injections, and see a dietitian/nutritionist every 3 days to make sure i'm on the right amount of insulin. - high blood pressure, which i now have to see a specialist twice a week to make sure it's not too high - swelling of hands - to be checked at the regular doctor once a week to make sure it's okay - nerve pains down both legs from baby laying on my lower back, making it impossible to stand or walk every so often, but it's no drama, i just have to wait for him to move and then the pain goes away again. so, are my friend over reacting, or am i just too happy to know any better about whether this is normal or doing it rough? more

Resolved Question: am i just over-reacting?

here's the deal - i just came here to US a year ago and FINALLY got my immigration papers done, which means i'll FINALLY be able to work- i waited for so long! i was just waiting to be able to drive (test is 2 weeks from now) so I could finally find a job, then we learned that I'm pregnant. Since I am not working yet, my Mother-in-law asked me to take care of my Father-In-law (really old), thinking it would be not permanent, I said agreed. even if it means that i'll only be able to see my husband during weekends :( I am staying here for a week now and yesterday she mentioned that she will just be getting my replacement when my stomach got big, which is on December. Now, my question is, AM I JUST OVER-REACTING (hormones working since im preggo) OR DO I REALLY HAVE THE REASON TO FEEL BAD ABOUT MY SITUATION! I told my husband about it and he said i'm just going to be here "for awhile" but my MIL is saying i'll be staying here for long..... She is paying me to do it, and we could really use the money but i cant stand being away from my husband. and besides, i'll be looking for a REAL job soon. WHAT SHOULD I DO? i dont want to hurt anyone's feelings but i want a happy pregnancy since this is my first... but i really feel so depressed being here and not seeing my husband... and i dont feel like MIL is considering that i am pregnant. The old man has a fever bec. of some "infection" but she didnt tell me what kind. he might have pneumonia or something since he's taking meds indicated for those (im in the medical field). Being preggy, i know my immune system is not working well and i dont want anything bad to happen to my baby! wahh.... i wanna go home to my mother! lol!I am also concerned if I would be able get a REAL job since I am pregnant. But how would I know If I won't try looking, right? and how can I look for a job if I am stuck here. I cant get an off since somebody has to stay with the old man. I needed to tell MIL like 2 weeks ahead when I have a Doctor's appt. more

Voting Question: Is there any way I am pregnant? Help please :(?

This might be a little long, but I want to get the back story. I went out of the country on 5/12 and got my period on 5/16. I came back from traveling on 6/4, and immediately got the flu, followed by pneumonia, which lasted a total of 2 weeks. I went on medication for my pneumonia, not my flu. I was due for a period on 6/16 but it never came. I took 3 home pregnancy tests and 1 blood test but they were all negative. I only had sex a couple time and none of it was unprotected. My boobs started to get sore like they normally do before a period and I finally started my period on 7/7. It was pretty heavy but it didn't seem to last as long as most of my periods (5 days instead of 7). Now I am starting to get sore breasts again but I shouldn't have my period for 2 weeks (and I usually get these symptoms 1 week before). I took another pregnancy test on 7/21 (in the morning) an it was negative but the line was faint. I have no idea what's going on with me and could really use some help : more

Resolved Question: Hysterectomy... what does Islam say about this?

3 members of my family had severe dysmenorrhoea & endometriosis & got a hysterectomy. In my last Q http://au.answers.yahoo.com/question/?qid=20080724192547AASgA79 people said that sterilisation is not an acceptable birth control in Islam. What if the sterilisation is done for health reasons? My mother also was sterilised after having 8 children. She has asthma. While pregnant with her 7th child she had pneumonia & nearly died (pregnancy drained her too much). While pregnant with no. 8, she got pneumonia & chicken pox (the 2nd time) & also was very close to death. She said she knew she could have chosen to let go of life. The doctors said she must not have any more children, so she was sterilised. Also... what if the mother has fragile mental health/physical (me). I have prayed about this. I feel in my ♥ that 5 children is what God wants me to have, & I might not be able to care for them if I have more. Do you believe there are exceptions when sterilisation would not be wrong?Michael... I am religious because I want to be. I want to have that sweet peace and joy that I feel in the presence of God. Do you really think that people would stay religious against their own desire? Thanks Justin for your concern ♥... I probably would just get tubes tied unless something goes wrong with my next childbirth. more

Resolved Question: rat breeding?

I bred my female rat, Salena, a few days ago. Now before anyone gets mad at me, i just want you to know that she is a breeder rat and is breeding with a breeder rat and i am well prepared and have plenty of space and time to take care of all the babies. So please dont get mad at me for breeding her. Anyway, one of her cagemates passed away of pneumonia about a month ago (so sad, she was my favorite little girl). I kept my girls separated and Salena hasn't shown any signs of the illness, but i was giving her baytril just in case. Now that she is pregnant, or should be pregnant, is it dangerous to keep giving her baytril? I stopped just in case. Also, is there any way to know for sure if a rat is pregnant before they start showing obvious signs like a large belly? I want to know for sure so i dont put her on a special pregnancy diet for nothing. more

Resolved Question: Feed back needed for research paper...?

The definition of infant mortality is defined as the number of deaths of infants (one year of age or younger) per 1000 live births. Why the sudden increase in infant deaths here in the U.S. and in other countries? What can we do to prevent infant mortality? What factors increase or decrease the chances of infant mortality? These are all questions that many journalists, medical professionals and families ask themselves. The United States is a technologicaly advanced country, yet infant mortality rates have been rising. The United States infant mortality rate is now comparable to Croatia, Lithuania, and Taiwan. The healthcare systems around the world need to take a good look at what is happening, after all the children are the future. They United States is estimatedly ranked 180 for 2008 by CIA Factbook. There may be a reason as to why the United States has higher infant mortality rates. While the U.S. reports all cases of infant mortality, it has been suggested that other developed countries do not. Some countries also do not register babies who die within the first 24 hours after birth. There seems to be different definitions as to what counts as a live birth, depending on where you are in the world. The United States counts all births as live if they show any sign of life, regardless of prematurity or size. This includes what many other countries report as stillbirths. Compared to Austria and Germany, where the fetal weight must be at least 500 grams (1 pound) to count as a live birth. Also in other parts of Europe, such as Switzerland, the fetus must be at least 30 centimeters (12 inches) long. In Belgium and France, births at less than 26 weeks of pregnancy are registered as lifeless. These contradictions may make it hard to have accurate numbers of infant mortalitys. The most common cause of infant mortality used to be dehydration and diarrhea, now thanks to Oral Rehydration Solution that is no longer the case. Currently pneumonia has taken the number one spot. Major causes of infant mortality in more developed countries include congenital malfunction , infection and SIDS (sudden infant death syndrome). Infantcide, abuse, abandonment, and neglect also contribute to infant mortality. Healthcare professionals say there is no one answer to the increase in infant mortality rates. One factor that seems to play a big role is the increase in premature births. In part due to Invitro fertilization, more multiple births are being reported each year than they have been in the past. With multiple births there is more of a risk for pre-term delivery. All pre-term and premature babies are at a higher risk for mortality. The gestational term for a baby now in the United States is 39 weeks, while a healthy gestational term is at least 40 weeks. There has been an increase in 34 to 37 week gestational term pregnancy's within the last ten years. Another factor for infant mortality rates in the United States is race and geographical location. Sadly African- Americans have much higher infant mortality rates than other ethnic groups. Some is in part due to poverty yet not all. Research tells us that the infant mortality rate among Puerto Ricans is 8.2, and for Native Americans, the rate is 9.1., while at the same time being only 5.1 for Central and South American immigrants. Infant mortality also seems to vary from state to state. Infant mortality seems to be higher in southeast states with the rate exceeding 7.5, yet states in the northeast and west coast have rates below 6.1. more

Resolved Question: More phlegm with pregnancy?

Ever since becoming pregnant I have been bringing up more phlegm then usual. Its not green but clear/white. Sometimes there is blood mixed in but i am 99% sure its from sinuses. I told my doctor about it when it first happened and they said to go back if it didn't improve within 3-4 weeks and that was two months ago. Its not *really* bad, and its usually in the morning, I am not really awake enough to spit it out so I end up swallowing alot of phlegm. My A/c is on most of the night I am not sure if this would have anything to do with it or not.. Any Suggestions what it could be? is it possible to get Pneumonia without a fever?there is only blood in it once a week, maybe every other week and its only a few drops. so i wasn't freaking out about that but i am going to the doc's thrus. I will bring it up again thenI did tell the doctor about the blood, - i told my oybgn- and my family doctor, and both acted like it wasn't a big deal. I thought it was as well, but am not sure what else to do if they won't run any tests? more

Resolved Question: Doing all the wrong things?

Ive had a bad chest infection and its turns out that I have pneumonia. The doctor has prescribed me erythromycin (because I cant tale penicillin). He told me that theres a risk that the baby will have stomach problem because of it and its really scaring me. The doctor assured me that theres no other drug I can take for the type of pneumonia I have and that doing nothing would be much worse. I trust the doctor but im so upset. I feel like im doing everything wrong in this pregnancy. I have a back injury so I'll be having a c-section under general anaesthetic and wont even be awake when my baby is born. I had to take Diflucan twice. I had an x ray and now this medication. I feel like such a failure what will I do if theres something wrong with my child and its all my fault? more

Resolved Question: Antibiotics during pregnancy???

Has anyone lese had to take erythromycin during their pregnancy? I have to for pneumonia and the doctor says theres a risk of pyloric stenosis for the baby. If you took it did the baby have pyloric stenosis and did they need surgery? Im so worried about this but the doctor says doing nothing would be much worse. more
