Open Question: Can symptoms of Diabetes come and go?
I keep going through phases where I have headaches and feel thirsty no matter how much I drink. But it is only phases from time to time, could it be worth getting tested for diabetes or could it be something else?I am 17 years old, I am not overweight, I excerise a lot and the on;y person in my family that I know of who has it is my great Uncle.I haven't given any consideration to my diet but it's not too bad, I have hayfever and that's the only allergy I have, I take Paracetamol and Ibuprofen for my headache and the phases don't have any correlation to my monthly cycle at all.
moreOpen Question: I exercise and eat well. Why am I gaining weight?
I know a lot of people claim to exercise and eat healthy but I REALLY do. I never diet (this encourages weight gain) but instead I eat whole grains, lots of veg and fruits, drink lots of water, a little coffee/tea and less than 14 units alcohol per week. I've gone to the trouble of adding up just how many calories I burn on average through exercise - a whopping 400 per day. Despite this, I have noticed my belly, thighs and arms inflating steadily over the past several weeks.
Also for the past few weeks, I've had a constant pain in my left ovary and wind. I've always had a lot of pain during periods and ovulation but it normally doesn't last this long. Anyway, the doc is now doing CA 125 and coeliac tests (for cancer and gluten intolerance). He's already done thyroid and diabetes tests which came back normal. I'm only 31 and scared by the thought that there could be something seriously wrong with my ovaries. So I guess I'd like to hear from other people who've had my symptoms and find out what their diagnosis was, so I can get an idea of what to expect from these tests.
Thanks!p.s. I doubt it's pregnancy as I've been having normal periods... but I haven't been tested for that yet so I'll check it out

moreResolved Question: What do these symptoms say?
Okay,
I'm 25 year old female. Not fat but not thin, quiet healthy (or I think I am) and usually energetic. Lately I've noticed that I walk from one room to another without sweating excessively, it's really a nightmare when I have to go out and actually do things like grocerie shopping, just taking a little walk with my boyfriend etc. 2nd, I'm constantly tired. I wake up tired but I can't say that I sleep bad at night. 3rd, I'm constantly hungry (maybe not physically but more of a mental thing), I'd even say I crave salty food (no, I'm not pregnant). The last, I'm always thirsty. I thought I might have diabetes but then I'm not losing weight rather the opposite.
I do smoke 3-4 cigarettes a day. I occasionally drink beer but not too many, I'm someone people would call a light weight but I used to drink a whole lot when I was in college if that matters. I had my blood sugar checked 3-4 months ago and it was slightly over the normal amount and everything else seemed to be in order. What could be causing these? Especially the sweating part is really inconvenient. I'm in China at the moment and don't speak the language so until I find an interpreter I was hoping to get some opinions. ThanksOkay, so I'll add some details. Some of the symptoms have started maybe a year ago but they were mild except for the eating. But the tiredness part has started about 2-3 months ago but I thought that it might be that I'm working and it's hot (worked in Thailand) but then now I sit at home most of the time with an aircon etc. It can't be the dry air because I come from a very dry place myself and I'm used to it it's the humidity that kills me. As for food, I cook at home and I know how much of what I put in.

i have BPD - borderline personality , as well as PTSD , ocd , severe anxiety , agoraphobia , a rage disorder, regular palpitations, obsessive worries everyday . recently i read this article about BPD which was talking that bpd patients are prone to serious physical health problems.
here is the paragraph first , then the link :
'' Physical Health
Unfortunately, BPD can also have a major impact on physical health. BPD is associated with a variety of serious health conditions, including chronic pain disorders such as fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome, arthritis, obesity, diabetes, and serious health problems. BPD is also associated with less healthy lifestyle choices (e.g., smoking, alcohol use, lack of regular exercise). ''
http://bpd.about.com/od/livingwithbpd/a/livingwithbpd.htm
besides that, i here regularly that sometimes '' hidden '' physical conditions can sometimes be the cause of serious mental illness.
ive heard about hormonal imbalances , getting hormones checked out....abnormal brain waves or brain structures that caused a mental health condition etc.
im out of shape and overweight, because of a long period of inactivity because of severe anxiety, agoraphobia , ptsd symptoms, and difficulty controling rage -
months ago i had a diabetes test which came back clear.
i have weak joints and muscles , that feel elastic like, i was told this was due to inactivity and lack of exercise.
i get obsessive worries and racing thoughts each day , where, i find it difficult to think clearly or concentrate.....my mind is scattered , be muddled and confused.
im 31 and ive had a very misfortunate, tough life so far... and im fighting to get the right treatment program from the mental health services..
ive had blood test months ago of my thyroid, liver and other stuff which apparently were also '' clear ''.
ive been told its likely my mental health problems are probably due down to my harsh life and life experiences..
however .
i keep worrying and obsessing i have '' underlying '' physical conditions that could be causing my symptoms.....and its being missed .

how can i handle these obsessive fears ? im really in a state about this right now.

moreResolved Question: Any ideas what you think the problem may be? Calling medical people.?
My best mates boyfriend aged 52 has been displaying the following symptoms. Up until 4 months ago he was a healthy fit man that went to the gym and played football with his 10 year old son.
For the past 4 months he has been experiencing pins and needles in hands and feet, extreme lethargy where he gets out of breath going upstairs, Unable to have sex without stopping midway (so my mate says!) depression. He also says his legs feel like big heavy weights and that he really does feel unwell. When he walks my friends has noticed that he is very slow and his feet drag.
He is a psychiatric nurse so also has a stressful job.
Apparently he has been checked out for thyroid problems and diabetes. He was clear of both those.
He was referred to Rheumatically who saw him yesterday and have referred him to Neurology.
Any ideas what this may be. MY mate is very worried and I think he is rather worried what it could be.

moreResolved Question: How to test blood sugar without a meter at home?
Does anyone know how you can test your blood sugar at home without going to the doctors or having a meter? Or if anyone knows what your urine would look/smell like if you had diabetes? moreResolved Question: Embarrassing..but less embarrassing than anything face to...face?!?
PLEASE BE SERIOUS; This is embarrassing and I feel quite sick even saying it but....
Had unprotected sex with a man who is a slag!!.. a few weeks ago, DID NOT want to but it happened...& I have avoided him since, but he jokingly said "I've got AIDS haha not really, just chlamydia, no I'm only joking I'm ok", immature, but now I'm paranoid!
I'm on the pill but for a few days I've had a itch INSIDE my vagina and its hardly asif I can scratch it! There's no other "symptoms", except that my vagina feels weird, like when I had some sort of bladder infection, it feels like I need to go ALL the time, and even if I don't there's some "pushing" feeling...
* Also after a drunken night at my girl mates house and early rise for work I showered and went comando to work because I was not borrowing her underwear..But I purchased some new underwear and put it on straight away, & now realise that is dirty!!..
So I wondered, do you think it's an STD, or yeast infection, thrush??, or something obscure like diabetes? OR...am I over paranoid, could it be stress?
*I am planning on going to the STD clinic anyway, bit nervous though.

moreVoting Question: A 'true' bacterial Sinus Infection.....?
k, i'll try and make this question short as its quite a long question hehe :)
If you had a true bacterial Sinus Infection, I've heard you'd probably need Antibiotics to help it, as your body would find it hard to fight? My question though is about complications of leaving a bacterial sinus infection...
- What are the differences/symptoms between Sinusitis and a bacterial infection that needs antibiotics?
- What age group of people are more at risk for complications from leaving a bacterial sinus infection? (e.g infection spreading to the eye/bone/brain etc....) As i've heard complications are very rare.
- How do you determine if you need Antibiotics for a sinus infection? Do you only need them when you are very ill/have a fever?
I have a sinus infection (problems have been on-going since January) i've had it since last thursday. My doctor has now given up and sent me for an appointment at the ENT Clinic on the 6th July! Which is quite a while away..... Will I need Antibiotics before then? Im just worried/paranoid about it spreading hehe :) My symptoms are - Some facial/nose pain, horrible taste/smell in my mouth, post-nasal drip with some green mucus, ear pressure and a bit feeling tired.
I'm a 20 year old female, with no big immune -system problems, e.g Diabetes/AIDS etc.... The only thing is, when I was younger I had quite alot of antibiotics for kidney problems which has now gone, and I dont want to become resistant to antibiotics, which I think might be happening.
Thanks so much for any answers you can offer! xxxx

moreResolved Question: Could I have diabetes?
I'm quite worried because today we had a biology lesson on Diabetes and I have quite a lot of symptoms.
Such as:
Blurred vision
Itching skin or yeast infections
Excessive thirst
Dry mouth
Frequent urination at night sometimes.
Leg pain
Fatigue/ Excessive tiredness/weakness
The leg pain is in the top of my leg and is really painful, like a period pain almost but in the top of my thigh and not during my period, I also get stomach aches simultaneously.
I also have a grandma who is diabetic so I'm quite worried.
I know I should go to the doctor and I think I will but I just wondered what you guys think.
Recently I have been feeling extremely tired constantly and haven't had a good nights sleep for nearly a week as I keep getting really warm and restless.
I also keep wanting big food binges and had a huge one last night at about half past 11 :S

moreResolved Question: Do I have diabetes? help!?
Ok so for the past couple of weeks I haven't really been myself. I've become more thirsty and hungry and I frequently feel drowsy and tired. I have also been finding in more difficult to breathe fully (I don't know if this is related cos I do sometimes suffer with anxiety attacks and shallow breathing from time to time) I've also been getting a dry mouth sometimes and sweating. I looked on the internet for early diabetes symptoms and this is what It came up with:
Extreme thirst
Extreme hunger
Frequent urination
Sores or bruises that heal slowly
Dry, itchy skin
Unexplained weight loss
Blurry vision that changes from day to day
Unusual tiredness or drowsiness
Tingling or numbness in the hands or feet
Frequent or recurring skin, gum, bladder or vaginal yeast infections
I'm really not sure what to think because I haven't experienced a lot of the symptoms only a few. For example I haven't experienced frequent urination or weight loss or anything like that.
So I'm really not sure what to think, or whether I'm developing diabetes? Do you think I should go and see a doctor?
Oh also I am vegetarian and I don't think I take in the necessary vitamins so could this be the problem? However I have been vegetarian for 3 years and never experienced these symptoms together.
I'm just so confused as you can probably see! Can anyone help me!?

Recently been told i have pcos but the only symptom i really had was missing periods here and there. The other problems such as diabetes, finding it hard to lose weight ect are not an issue. However i had a scan of the ovaries and according to the doctor they are suppose to be hard to find but bigger + lumpy, mine where hard to find but had no signs of being an abnormal shape and size.
Since this (and also knowing 2 women who suffer from pcos, who were both over weight with excess hair), i am not 100% sure i believe the diagnosis. But if it proves to be correct, i am a little worried about the changes of not becoming pregnant naturally or losing a child. It would be nice to hear to positive comments, maybe from women with pcos and children.

Hi everyone..
Ok, so my boyfriend has been not in such great health for a while now. He is 24, a pretty much healthy weight and size, doesn't smoke or drink now (used to drink alot between ages of 18 and 20).
He has been, for many, many many months now, tired all the time and feeling 'out of it' likes disassociated from himself, kind of thing. More recently he has been feeling a little breathless sometimes and goes a bit shakey and a little bit dizzy. His temperature is usually normal, sometimes a little warm, but never has a fever. lately he has been more pale than anything.
I myself am just getting over months of a viral infection and sinus infection, which my mum has had too. He has had dark green mucus that comes from his throat for a while now, wondering if that has anything to do with it?
He is in bed asleep now, and has been for 2 1/2 hours, he says he feels shakey and run down sort of feeling.
Had blood tests done last year, blood cell count, thyroid, diabetes, etc were all fine and normal. :)
He had Leukaemia when he was a child, from ages 3 - 10 he was battling it. His mum took him to the doctors that day with 'cold/virus' symptoms - pale, run down, tired etc... Had Leukaemia.
Any ideas on what this could be?....
thank you

moreResolved Question: Constant Urination- What can the problem be? Please help!?
For the last few years, I'm estimating around years, I have had to go to the toilet way too often. I usually wake up 2 or 3 times at night, and in the day I sometimes go every half an hour.
I don't have any pain when I urinate (unless I have to hold it in!), and I don't have any other symptoms that I can think of. The amount of water I pass is always a fairly large amount as well. I just don't understand how it is possible to urinate so much!
Another problem I seem to get is that if I go to the toilet too often, I end up getting even more thirsty, and I have to drink more, making the problem worse. Though, I still urinate often even if I don't drink a lot. Some days the problem is worse than others. I have been to the Doctors a few times. I went last year and they tested me for diabetes and that came back negative. I also had a urine test a few weeks ago and there were no problems with my urine. I'm starting to get really annoyed as I have to plan my life around public toilet facilities, and it is a nightmare at university as I have to make frequent trips to the bathroom. Does anyone know what the problem could be?
I'm 21 years old, female, I am about 5ft 6, and I weight around 8 and a half stone. I don't take any medication, prescribed or otherwise, and I stay away from caffeine. I believe I am healthy in every other way.
PLEASE help me!Yeah, I thought about having a small bladder as well, but I still go very often and I pass rather a lot of water. I really do not know. It hasn't always been a problem. Also, I don't know if this is connected. I played a good standard of football but ive had to give it up because i never had any energy. I've given up drink, sweet drinks, and all my favourite foods!
I was tested for diabetes, helibactor, blood tests, urine tests etc, but all came back clear. I do however have gastritis and an infection in the duodenum after being sent for a gastoscopy. Is it possible to have this for 3 months or could there been somethin else going on? The doctor has put me on double dose of Omreprazole and Domperidone but still after a week not had any major effect?
Does anybody have any ideas?? Apart from the fact that i should be put down...haha! I'm a happy person but jus want my healthy sporty life back!!

moreResolved Question: Am I showing signs of diabetes or high blood sugar, this is really tearing me apart and scaring me !!?
Im 18 years old , 6 ft 2,188Cm's (6ft2),90 Kgs (14 Stones),Waist Circumference 107 Cm's, Blood Pressure 155 systolic,88 diastolic. and i have started gym only very recently.
i am SO scared of having diabetes or high blood sugar. but basically my hands and feet sometimes gets those tingly feelings although its not painful yet just faint. my visions can double at ties when i focus although normally my vision is great.i can get tired although that's sorta stopped now and i reckon its happened because i was on holiday for a week where i used to sleep at 3 AM and wake up 11-1 and also i had been stressed at college. im not extremely thirsty although if i am out and have change i would possibly buy Ribena as i love the taste.on some occasions i would go toilet 6 times bu that's spread throughout the day and its a rare thing normally i go less and i never need to go when im sleeping.and i have a big appetite but im never extremely hungry and know when to stop.and most scary of them all is that on two occasions (once at christmas day , and another just 30 minutes ago) i would sleep on my sofa for a "little nap" then when i wake up i cant speak or move my body for a few moments which really scared me , is this because i was sleeping with m Head falling backwards or to the side? ?
PLEASE PLEASE someone tell me if im showing major symptoms im SO scared ive made it my lent promise to take less sugar and cut out chocolate replacing them with granola bars or whatever. but please tell me is there something wrong with me ?? is diabetes type 2 dangerous ??
please some serious replies i would REALLY appreciate it , im planning on seeing the pharmacist possibly next week. sorry if this question was really long.also i am not obese , my gym trainer says im borderline overweight but y only a small fraction im pretty toned.

moreResolved Question: Have I inherited diabetes or a condition linked to it?
My Mum has Diabetes AND an underactive thyroid. Was wondering how likely I was to inherit either of them. I get real lows sometimes and have to eat something sugary, I feel spaced out, almost drunk and get the shakes and my lips tingle. I know that it is normal to get the shakes if u don't have enough sugar in your system but it happens almost every day. Another thing is that I just never seem to have any motivation, everything is such an effort and I always feel tired (again I know this is normal, and could be to do with something so simple such as my diet). I also embarrassingly sweat more than average I hate it - I've heard that this can be caused by glandular problems (i.e. linked with the thyroid). I'm not really overweight, I've always been average but lately have been eatin a little too much and have got unfit, but these symptoms aren't as a result of this as Ive had them for a long time.
I don't really go to the doctors if theres nothing at all wrong with me...what u think? Diabetes type 1 and hypothyroidism are linked so maybe I've inherited some sort of trait linked with these i.e. liver defect??? I DUNNO LOL
